What is already setup
Backstory first.. I have a 4 bedroom 2 bath 1,300 sqft house. And have put all my tech stuff in the laundry room.
So, I cut in two 2gang electrical boxes on the ceiling in the laundry room and a single gang in the middle for AT&T fiber. Those are for my cables I will run. I got a 2 pack of 2gang brush plates on Amazon, apparently big box stores don’t carry them. So it looks good.
With that done I began pulling wire. Cat6 and RG6 I ran combo wall jacks to three places future proofing for tvs later. Then ran cat6 to 2 other rooms and then 5 cameras and a doorbell as well as a RG6 for a future proof attic antenna just in case. Lastly I ran a single mode fiber optic cable(like 15$ on Amazon) from there to the back of the house where I used 1” pipe from the soffit down to a weather proof junction box(22$ or so). This box is to future proof fiber run to a shop I planned to build later on.
Then I had to get power to it so I attempted to run a new home run into the exterior panel to no avail.. so I temporarily tapped into another circuit nearby until I can get help with the new wire. So I ran the jumper down and put the receptacle on the bottom of the top plate so the bottom of the receptacle is exactly 6” which is how far the caninet is from the ceiling. This makes it where the ceiling to bottom of cabinet is 37” which makes it perfect height to match with 16” deep wood cabinets to achieve a built in look.
With all cables ran I got a Vevor 15U 18” deep glass door server cabinet. It works great for my application. It is mounted. AT&T already setup from that single gang box and the modem on the shelf that came with the rack. All wires nice and neat.
Appreciate any tips!
More coming soon!
